If the company that is driving the policy is a public company, then that audience of families will be educated and encouraged to purchase the stock. For many early stage public companies, the addition of a few hundred thousand educated and supportive shareholders is very significant - it changes the nature of the public company efforts.
If we take the T1D space as an example - there are about 300k T1D kids under the age of 18. Each one of those kids can influence directly 3-4 adults. This results in an influence reach of over a million people. Any lawmaker that gets a personalized message from 500k potential voters, regarding a particular policy or law, will cave in to the masses.
This is what politicians do - they cave to the entity that threatens them most. They just want to stay in office.
